Error in subtitle: there is an error in the pinyin font used for my subtitles. The character 切 should be the first tone qiē, as I have marked in red on screen, instead of the fourth tone shown in my pinyin subtitles. This is a built-in font, and I cannot edit or correct the pinyin portion of the font itself. Through years of teaching experience, I’ve noticed one clear gap for most language learners: a huge shortage of practical, daily colloquial Chinese. Take this video about making a sandwich as an example. Most of my students lack all the basic, essential daily verbs we actually use in real life. This is exactly what my practical situational Chinese videos focus on. My goal is to fill the gap left by standard textbooks like HSK, which often overlook these high-frequency everyday words and expressions. Funny thing is that the same challenge applies to Chinese students who are learning English too. In this video, I first introduce sequence words, which are incredibly important for connecting your sentences smoothly. Here they are, listed in order: 先 xiān → first 然后 rán hòu → then 再 zài → then/next 最后 zuì hòu → finally/in the end You can use as many 然后 rán hòu and 再 zài as you need to structure your actions naturally. After that, I cover the core action verbs for making a sandwich: 切 qiē → to cut 抹 mǒ → to spread (for jam, cream cheese, and other soft toppings) 放 fàng → to put on 盖 gài → to cover (the character originally means "lid" as a noun, and describes placing the top layer as a verb) Happy listening .
