When You Feel Too Broken to Be Called Righteous - Jehovah Tsidkenu | Names of God | Jeremiah 23:6
You know the gap. The space between who you are supposed to be as a believer and who you actually are on a Tuesday morning. The shame of falling back into the same struggle. The quiet fear that maybe you have used up your quota of grace. Today's name was not spoken to people who had it together. It was spoken through a prophet in prison to a nation that had failed God completely about a King whose name no human ruler could ever live up to. "In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." Jeremiah 23:6, NKJV 📖 About this name: When Jeremiah spoke this name, the king sitting on Judah's throne was a man named Zedekiah, which, in Hebrew, literally means "The Lord is my Righteousness." He carried the name, and Scripture says he was evil in the sight of the Lord. He could not live up to it. So God, through Jeremiah, announced a coming King whose name would not just claim righteousness but actually be it. Jehovah Tsidkenu, from tsedek, meaning straight, right, accurate, just, is not my righteousness or your righteousness alone. It is our righteousness. Given. Not earned. Most believers carry a quiet belief that righteousness before God is something you achieve, maintain, and lose when you fail, something you have to earn back through good behavior or sincere enough repentance. This name dismantles that belief completely. Your standing before God was never meant to be generated by your performance. It was always meant to be received as a name placed over your life, the same way a failing king's name pointed forward to the only King who could actually carry it. 💬 What does it mean to you today to know your standing before God is not based on your performance?
