DESIGN OF COMPOSITE STEEL DECK SLAB WITH WIRE MESH AND STUDS

A composite steel deck is a structural concrete slab formed on a corrugated steel deck that acts as slab external positive bending reinforcement after the concrete has gained strength. A composite slab generally consists of a composite steel deck, structural concrete, and temperature and shrinkage reinforcement, which may be in the form of welded wire fabric, steel fibers, or macro synthetic fibers. Steel reinforcing bars can be added to composite deck slabs to achieve longer spans without making the slab deeper or using heavier deck gage. There are three different locations where reinforcing bars can be installed for different purposes: Top bars above interior supports for slab continuity. Bottom bars in the slab span for improved positive moment capacity or establish fire resistance by rational design, and Top bars in the slab span for long-term deflection control.
