Sista Budet (The Last Bid, 1981)

Lisette and Roger, a working-class couple dreaming of a better life, believe they have won big on the football pools—only to discover the prize is far smaller than expected, leaving them in debt. As their luck worsens, Roger loses his taxi job and Lisette is laid off when a powerful businessman, Anders Berger, takes over her struggling factory with public subsidies. While Roger retrains as a welder at the same plant, Lisette takes work connected to Berger’s world and eventually manages to open a small, low-cost restaurant for ordinary people. But when layoffs hit the factory and Berger’s shady business practices come to light, Lisette exposes the corruption and brings the evidence to the workers occupying the plant. Months later, with the struggle still ongoing, Lisette and Roger stand together among the supporters, collecting donations to keep the workers’ protest alive.
