The line was opened in 1895 as an extension of the line to Olbernhau. Service on the entire line was discontinued in 2001 due to track damage. On the section from Grünthal to Neuhausen, there was occasional special service on the entire line until 2018 and on the first two kilometers until 2023. However, at the end of 2023, the line was closed after being returned to DB InfraGO. As a result, the special service operated by Erzgebirgsbahn to the Oberneuschönberg signal box (junction of the railway line to Deutschneudorf), which ran until 2023, is no longer possible. The track itself is no longer maintained; the problem develops slowly but becomes unstoppable at a certain point – trees on the track. The local history society manages not only the signal box building but also the adjacent land. On April 30th, the largest bonfire (also known as Walpurgis Night) in Olbernhau will take place here again. 3:15 Steel girder bridge over the Flöha River 8:20 Oberneuschönberg signal box
