Thousands stranded as police block major roads into Nairobi CBD
Thousands of travellers were left stranded on Thursday after police blocked all major roads leading to the city centre. Waiyaki Way, Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Kangundo Road and Magadi Road were turned into active security zones, with police using spikes, stones and their own vehicles to block access routes. Police defended the move, saying it was meant to prevent goons from accessing the CBD. However, travellers and business people described the disruption as an inconvenience that could have been avoided, warning of its impact on the economy. Gatete Njoroge reports.
