Volk's Electric Railway - Oldest electric Railway in the World

This is Volk's Electric Railway from 1883 - oldest electric Railway in the World. It runs at Brighton on the promenade from Aquarium Station to Black Rock Station, with Halfway Station in the middle. This is a 110V DC system with three rails. 13 pedestrian crossing points. Max speed in 4th gear of 13mph. 3 Stations. Today we get a ride at the front on the cab. Watch as the driver (Phil I think his name was) takes us along and explains a little as we go. It was kind of him to offer a front row seat to get good shots. It is a jerky railway, so my Sony 810 camera was using its steady-shot lens to full effect today. It only cost about a fiver to go (2019 prices), so I do recommend the 25 min ride there and back. You may notice some shots are in reverse. This was because they were shot on the outward journey, so I have edited them in backwards as cutaway shots. One shot is the beach, and others include people that walk as the give-away. More info here: http://volksrailway.org.uk/ Music (briefly) is from Ripper Street TV series. Internet search 'Calvertfilm'.
