Anatomy of Mediastinum

The mediastinum is a central compartment of the thoracic cavity, nestled between the left and right pleural sacs. It acts as a conduit for numerous vital structures that maintain systemic and pulmonary functions. Divided into the superior and inferior mediastinum, this region houses critical organs, nerves, and vessels. The superior mediastinum, extending from the first rib to T4, contains the thymus, trachea, esophagus, aortic arch, major veins (like the superior vena cava and brachiocephalic veins), and nerves (vagus and phrenic) 🫀. The inferior mediastinum is further divided into anterior, middle, and posterior compartments. The anterior inferior mediastinum (T4-T9) primarily holds remnants of the thymus and lymph nodes. The middle mediastinum cradles the heart, pericardium, phrenic nerves, and great vessels like the pulmonary trunk and ascending aorta 🩺. Meanwhile, the posterior mediastinum (T4-T12) accommodates the descending aorta, esophagus, thoracic duct, azygos veins, splanchnic nerves, and lymphatics. #Mediastinum #ThoracicAnatomy #MedicalEducation #NEETPGPreparation #USMLEPrep #FMGE2025 #MedicalStudents #Medicos #AnatomyMadeEasy #ClinicalAnatomy #StudyMedicine #ExamTips #MedicalContent #YouTubeMedical #FutureDoctors #MedExamTips #MedicosOfInstagram #AnatomyLovers #medicalanimations #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmge2024 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2025 #usmleprep #usmlevideos #usmlestep1videos #medicalstudents #neetpgvideos #usmlestep2videos
