#SNTF 1st & 2nd Gen EMD GL18B Locomotive Cab Ride Comparison

Filmed during June, August and September 2021 The first generation EMD GL18B was imported from Canada in a batch of 5 units in 1990 (040DH01-040DH05) and 8 units made in 1993 (040DH06-040DH13) The second generation was also imported from Canada in a batch of 15 units (040DJ01-040DJ15) in the year 2000. the most distinguishing visual aspects between the two different generations is that the 1st gen has a front walking platform with handle bars whereas its successor doesn't. Moreover, the sand boxes in the first gen are attached to the sides of each bogie whereas in the 2nd gen, the sand boxes are attached to the under frame of the locomotive. Furthermore, The 1st gen has handle bars at the top of the locomotive's long hood on each whereas the 2nd gen doesn't. And last but not least, unlike its successor, the 1st gen EMD GL18B is equipped with dual control stands inside its cabine for easy manoeuvring around freight yards, giving it a unique touch within the Algerian #SNTF locomotive roster. Other than that, both generations are pretty much identical when it comes to internal components and performance.
