REGISTERING AN EBIKE AS A MOTORCYCLE | UK MSVA TEST PART 1

This is the start of a small series where I talk about the process of registering an electric bike as a Moped (light motorcycle) in the UK. The scheme that exists in the UK to allow a self built bike to be tested for compliance is called the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval scheme or MSVA. It's not a trivial process and requires the builder to follow a set of guidelines in order to make a bike road worthy. I decided to start this process to get my bike on the road as a motorcycle for numerous reasons, the main one being road presence (the ability to ride in the center of the road) and also as I will be using this bike as a secondary mode of transport when I move to a more rural location.
