I Left a Game Camera by the Tracks Overnight... Here's What It Caught!

While camping at Grundy Lake Provincial Park in Northern Ontario, I spent some time trainspotting along the busy CPKC Parry Sound Subdivision near Highway 69. What started as a relaxing day in the wilderness turned into an incredible railfanning experience when CP 8133, a powerful 4,400-horsepower locomotive, came flying past with a massive, loaded freight train. The roar of the locomotives echoed through the Canadian Shield as thousands of tons of freight raced beneath the Trans-Canada Highway. Watching a train of this size and speed roll through the Northern Ontario wilderness is something every railfan should experience. But the adventure didn't end there. Curious about what might pass through after dark, I mounted a game camera beside the tracks and left it running overnight. The next morning, I checked the footage and was amazed to discover that the camera had captured five different freight trains in roughly 12 hours. It's a reminder that even when the forest is quiet, Canada's rail network never sleeps. From camping and trainspotting to unexpected overnight rail traffic, this was one of my favorite moments from Grundy Lake.
