What is the Universe made of? How does it work? Humans have been asking themselves these questions since the dawn of time. Today, we still know little about it, but we are constantly searching for answers. We know (and use!) methods for studying the smallest components of the Universe and the phenomena that occur between them, and we also know, at least approximately, the structure of these phenomena, but many open questions remain. Despite the discovery of the Higgs particle in 2012, which provides a kind of closure to the Standard Model, the theory describing the particle world, we still don't have a complete picture of it. What is dark matter? Why is there more matter than antimatter? Does quantum gravity exist? These are just a few of the questions we seek answers to... Dr. Paweł Malecki works at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He studies elementary particle physics and the search for physical theories that go beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles. He has participated in research conducted at CERN and the ATLAS experiment, among others.
