Medievil 1 (PS1) ¦ Part 4 ¦ Into The Wetlands

Title : Medievil Console : PS1 / PS4 Release Year : 1998 (PS1) / 2019 (PS4) Game Overview: In MediEvil, the long-dead Sir Daniel Fortesque is accidentally brought back to life when the evil sorcerer Zarok returns, casting a spell that plunges the kingdom of Gallowmere into darkness and raises the dead to serve his will. Hailed in legend as a fearless champion, Dan was in truth no hero at all. Now reanimated as a shambling skeleton, he is given an unexpected second chance to rewrite his story. Setting out across a land twisted by magic, he journeys through haunted graveyards, cursed farmlands, and long-forgotten ruins, battling grotesque creatures and gathering the means to challenge Zarok’s growing power. As the kingdom falls deeper under the sorcerer’s influence, Dan’s unlikely quest becomes one of redemption. With each step, he must confront not only the horrors of Gallowmere, but the weight of the legend he failed to live up to—seeking at last to become the hero people believed him to be. Episode Plot: In Part Four, Sir Dan ventures into the Enchanted Forest, where the air itself seems touched by magic. Before long, he discovers a familiar cauldron and uses his talisman to summon another reclusive witch like the one he encountered in the Pumpkin Gorge. She tasks him with retrieving amber from deep within an ants’ nest, offering a reward in return. Accepting, Dan is magically shrunk and sent below the forest floor. Within the nest, he encounters a trapped fairy who pleads for help in rescuing his scattered kin. Navigating the twisting tunnels, Dan gathers the amber while freeing the imprisoned fairies, all while fending off swarming enemies. At the heart of the nest, he confronts and defeats the Ant Queen before escaping back to the surface. True to her word, the witch rewards him—though the weapon she grants, a simple chicken drumstick, is as curious as it is effective. Pressing deeper into the forest, Dan discovers an ancient chamber that reacts to the Shadow Artifact. In disturbing its power, he inadvertently unleashes the Shadow Demons upon the land. A nearby gargoyle warns that these creatures are drawn toward the ruins of King Peregrine’s castle, setting Dan on a new course. Beyond the forest, Dan reaches the Pools of the Ancient Dead, where he encounters the spectral boatman, Charon. Recognising him, Charon offers passage across the waters—if Dan can recover eight lost souls scattered throughout the area. Completing the task, Dan earns safe passage and is ferried across the lake. Arriving near the outskirts of Mellowmede, now partially overrun, Dan navigates the flooded outskirts and encroaching dangers before discovering an entrance to the caves beneath the town. With the path ahead revealed, he presses onward toward the ruins of King Peregrine’s castle, where the Shadow Demons now gather. Where We Leave Off: We leave off with Sir Dan entering the Crystal Caverns on his way to King Peregrine's castle. Episode Remarks: I've never really enjoyed the middle levels of this game. Except the Ant's Nest, that level will always be cool to me. But Forest, Pools, and Lake have always been a bit lacklustre to me. We have managed to collect the best sword in the game from the Hall of Heroes though, so I'm happy about that... though I do remember it being available later in the game, either way I'm not complaining. Some of my favourite levels are coming up though, the castle and the ghost ship are just the best this game has to offer. It is possible that we will complete the game in the next episode, from what I can remember, there are twenty levels to complete and I've done fourteen now, depending on how I get on, I may just blast through and finish the game.
