Title : Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets Console : Playstation 1 Release Year : 2002 (Note: There are multiple versions of this game, but every version is completely different, so I just included the PS1 release above as it is the only release that is relevant for this version of the game) Game Overview: In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry returns for his second year at Hogwarts expecting a quieter term, but strange events soon begin to spread fear through the castle. Thank you for the recommendation, this one is for you ;) Episode Plot: In Part Six, Harry and Ron sneak across the castle grounds beneath Harry’s Invisibility Cloak, carefully avoiding patrolling teachers and Filch as they make their way toward Hagrid’s hut under cover of darkness. Reaching the cabin undetected, they hear voices inside. Ron quickly recognises Dumbledore and Hagrid, though a third voice soon becomes unmistakable: Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic. Hidden outside the hut, Harry and Ron listen in horror as Fudge accuses Hagrid of reopening the Chamber of Secrets and places him under arrest. Before being taken away, Hagrid deliberately leaves behind a cryptic clue, telling those listening that if they want answers, they should “follow the spiders.” Moments later, Harry notices a trail of spiders crawling away from the grounds and disappearing into the Forbidden Forest. Determined to uncover the truth, he follows them into the darkness beneath the trees. Deep within the forest, Harry discovers a vast cave draped in thick webs. Inside waits a gigantic spider capable of speech. The creature reveals itself to be Hagrid’s former pet and explains that it was wrongly accused many years earlier of killing a girl inside one of Hogwarts’ bathrooms. The spider insists that Hagrid is innocent and warns Harry that the true monster lurking within the Chamber is a creature spiders fear above all others, one whose name they dare not speak. Though Harry finally learns that Hagrid could never have opened the Chamber, the encounter quickly turns deadly when the giant spider attacks. Forced into battle, Harry fights the monstrous creature and ultimately defeats it before fleeing the cave. Outside, the enchanted Ford Anglia suddenly appears from the darkness of the forest. Harry climbs into the flying car and escapes the Forbidden Forest at speed. Later, back inside the Gryffindor common room, Harry reunites with Ron only to be met by Professor McGonagall with devastating news. Hermione has been petrified, and Ginny Weasley has been taken into the Chamber of Secrets itself. The revelation causes Harry to suddenly piece together the clues. The spider had spoken of a girl dying in a bathroom, leading Harry to realise the victim must have been Moaning Myrtle. Convinced her bathroom hides the entrance to the Chamber, Harry tells Ron to meet him there while he searches for Professor Lockhart, believing the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher will help them rescue Ginny. Where We Leave Off: We leave off heading for Lockhart's office. Episode Remarks: Starting off with a bit of an annoyance, the invisibility cloak section is directly ripped off from the first game, even the first area is identical to the first game except the bookshelves have been replaced by hedges. That is seriously lazy game design. We saw this before in the Diagon Alley section as well, it's just disappointing, though I guess it is something to expect with tie-in games. The forbidden forest was a treat to explore in the first game and it is a treat to explore again in the second. The atmosphere is seriously top notch and pushes all of my nostalgia buttons. I think it's my favourite section of the game. The boss fight against Aragog is a bit lackluster though considering you don't actually fight the spider directly, but it's enjoyable for what it is. After getting back to Hogwarts, I decided to do some clean up to collect the remaining cards and the hidden upgrade to Flipendo. This is because I am at the point of no return, once I find Lockhart I will be entering the Chamber of Secrets and finishing the game. So...time to kick some dark wizard butt!!!
