Unexplained Drowsiness in a Case of Stroke

68 years old male. Case of diabetes and hypertension. Presented with seizures and left hemiparesis. BRAIN SCAN showed a 2.4 *1.2 cm bleed. Next morning he deteriorated. He was very drowsy. A small bleed could not explain this drowsiness. He was to be shifted to the ICU. The oxygen saturation was only 87%. He was snoring as if in deep sleep, and hence, we had thought of Sleep Apnea Syndrome. The sleep apnea study confirmed the diagnosis. Steroids and oxygen were given. Patient showed a miraculous improvement. Discharged a couple of days later. If we would not have diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea in time, patient would have been in the ICU on a ventilator.
