00:00 OP 2:17 Stress of the bully 5:32 The victim 6:21 What happens if the bullying is severe Today, I will talk about the theme of "What happens to those who have been bullied afterwards". Many people who have been bullied in the past visit the psychiatric department. Even if they don't talk about the effects or experiences of bullying in their daily lives, there are many people who say that it remains deep in their hearts. Many people have to deal with it in clinical situations. It seems like an exaggeration to say that people who have developed psychiatric illnesses as a result of bullying, and there are many parts that cannot be said to be an exaggeration. This time, I would like to talk about how people who have experienced bullying talk about it in clinical situations and how they treat it as treatment. The definition of "bullying" here is one-sided violence by elementary, junior high, and high school students. It also includes mental violence. Rather than saying that the bullied child is the cause, I think the problem lies with the bully. I think bullying is when a bully pushes or lashes out their stress and violence on someone who doesn't fight back or is weaker. The bullied person becomes depressed. As they become depressed, they are unable to say "help me," and a cognitive distortion occurs that makes them think it would be very embarrassing to ask for help, making them even less able to say it. I think this is the structure of bullying. ■ Stress of the bully What kind of violence and stress do bullies push on others? It is known that when these conditions overlap, people are more likely to become bullies and use violence. ・Violence is close at hand The perpetrators are also physically punished by their parents, or have witnessed their parents' domestic violence. They may have witnessed violence or actually experienced it themselves. It is inseparable from abuse. Sibling fights can be violent, and it is not uncommon for a child to be beaten unilaterally by his or her older brother. ・Witnessing violence There is no violence at home, but there are fights in the streets, and public safety is poor. A teacher at school is violent towards a student, or a senior in a club is violent towards a student. There is a bully nearby, or you witnessed bullying in action. ・Alcohol/drugs, gambling Belonging to a delinquent group, drinking alcohol, or using illegal drugs are also high risk factors. Some children start drinking as early as elementary or junior high school. ・Games/media When I say this, I'm sure some people will write comments like "games aren't bad" or "TV, manga, and novels aren't bad," but there is data to support that. It says not to let children see things that are stimulating. So games and media contain elements that can make people violent. Children are simple. They lack knowledge and experience, so it's difficult for them to make sound judgments or control themselves. I think that's why they learn violence and use it. Children are still under a lot of stress in their daily lives. I always feel the stress of "growing up" and the stress of "powerlessness." In such a situation, it is not acceptable to use violence against someone weaker than you, but I feel that it is a human mechanism. ■The victim of bullying What happens to the victim of bullying? It can develop into something like this. ・Trauma, PTSD ・Depression ・Anxiety disorder ・Wrist cutting/OD Sometimes this happens as a child, but there are a certain number of people who don't get this far even as adults. Also, even if the bullying as a child is not the direct cause, later power harassment or long hours of overtime work can make you depressed. At such times, the experience of being bullied pops up, and even when you are resting at home, such thoughts run through your mind or you remember them. ■What happens if the bullying is severe ・The wound does not disappear → Create another route You avoid people somewhere, and feel anxious when you are in a close call. You may also not be able to trust people. This requires creating a separate route to build trust. "The emotional scars won't go away, but I won't be bullied again" "It may have been like that when I was a child, but I won't be bullied again when I'm an adult" "My boss is abusive, but now I can get away with it, unlike when I was a child" It is necessary to add another thought like this. It is said that it is difficult, or perhaps impossible, to erase something that is already there. Even if you were born and raised in Japan, went to America at the age of 10, and have lived there for 30 or 40 years, your native language is still Japanese. Your first experiences are hard to erase, and no matter how fluent you become in English, your native language is still Japanese. In the same way, the fundamental parts of your interpersonal relationships can never be restored to a blank slate. Some people don't trust people in the first place. They're l...
