This is a Maytag Atlantis model MAV8551AWW. It was picked from the trash and agitates but will not spin. The fix turns out to be simple and costs about $0.20. Most people will tell you to buy a thrust bearing kit, which costs about $30, but this method might save you some money on parts. This washer was also made under the Whirlpool brand and probably others. This seems to be a robust model with a mechanical timer, which means fewer computer components to go bad. But can we fix it permanently?
