Normally, it's nothing to worry about. But sometimes, certain conditions can cause these same symptoms to be persistent, even constant. A person may experience numbness in their legs and feet due to sitting in a position that puts too much pressure on the nerves or reduces blood flow. However, chronic or long-lasting numbness is most often a sign of a medical condition that is causing pressure on the nerves. Electroneuromyography (ENMG) of the lower limbs is a specialized neurophysiological examination that assesses the nerves of the thighs, legs, feet, and lumbar spine. Through this examination, it is possible to study the functioning of motor neurons, peripheral nerves, muscles, and the communication between the nerves and muscles of the entire lower limb. This examination can help identify the cause of leg numbness and the degree of nerve involvement, guiding treatment. To properly treat leg numbness, it is necessary to identify the condition causing it. Not all causes of this symptom can be cured, however. In these cases, treatment aims to control and manage symptoms and prevent further nerve damage, reducing their frequency and intensity so you can continue with your daily activities. Depending on the cause, numbness in the legs can be relieved by medication, vitamin supplements, physical therapy, or surgery.
