Pas de Bourrée | Step-by-Step Tutorial

What often separates a good dancer from a great dancer is the quality of their transitions, and pas de bourrée is one of the most important and frequently used transition steps in ballet. It may look simple, but how smoothly and precisely it’s executed makes a huge difference. Pas de bourrée can be done small and in place, traveling, under or over, with pickups to coupé or passé, or even in a more grapevine-style pattern across the floor. No matter how it’s used, the step always follows the same fundamental pathway. In this video, I break down pas de bourrée de côté dessous, a sideways traveling pas de bourrée that moves under (or “behind first”). I build the step in clear, approachable levels so you can fully understand where it begins, how it connects, and how it finishes. I also share two common mistakes that tend to show up when learning pas de bourrée and how to fix them, so you can move through this step with more confidence, control, and ease in your ballet class. 00:00 Introduction 00:25 Part 1 03:09 Part 2 04:52 Part 3 09:07 2 Common mistakes 11:09 Final thoughts I’d love to hear from you!
