Two years ago, I met Don Hugo at the Santa Ana mail carrier parade… and without imagining it, he went viral for his phrase: “Obviously, Poke Poke.” Over time, we lost touch. He lost his job, his phone… and many people asked me: “What happened to Don Hugo?” I decided to go look for him in the El Palmar neighborhood of Santa Ana to find out how he was really doing. Today, he makes a living doing odd jobs: cleaning parks, washing bathrooms, and helping out wherever he can for a few dollars. Despite everything, he told me he feels happy.
