A full afternoon on the 2nd and a brief night on the 6th, spent in the lovely town of Ashland, VA. Enoy. 4-2-26 (0:00): Amtrak P092 starts the day off. ALC-42 311 P42DC 179 (0:59): CSX I031 meets Amtrak P080. CSX I031 ES44AH 726 ES44AH 3231 Amtrak P080 ALC-42 355 (5:54): Amtrak P089's presence breaks some silence. ALC-42 330 (7:01): CSX M416 rolls through Ashland. ET44AH 3413 CM44AH 7563 (ex-AC4400CW 534) (13:22): After the boarding announcement for this train (they typically do it when the train is passing through Glen Allen) Amtrak P138 arrives and departs Ashland. P42DC 148 (17:55): Amtrak P091 SB. I like how out of the three sleepers on this train, there's a Phase III, a Phase IVB, AND a Phase VII. ALC-42 336 P42DC 150 (18:46): Amtrak P095 bypasses Ashland. ALC-42 318 (19:25): Amtrak P090 rolls through Ashland with all Phase IV Amfleets, and no headlights. ALC-42 312 (19:52): Amtrak P124 arrives and departs Ashland. P42DC 140 (22:39): Amtrak P053, the SB Auto Train, rolls by. ALC-42 357 ALC-42 358 (26:14): Amtrak P125 arrives and departs. P42DC 22 (30:33): CSX M408 goes by. ES44AH 828 CM44AH 7592 (ex-AC4400CW 5116) (35:09): CSX M415 passes through town in the dark. CM44AH 7001 (ex-AC4400CW 58). ES44AH 723 (39:06): CSX M407 is next in line. ES40DC 5228 SD40-3 4293 (ex-CSX SD40-2 8337/SBD 8278/CRR SD40 3002) ES40DC 5333 (mid-DPU) ES44AH 3108 (mid-DPU) (45:09): Amtrak P093 arrives and departs Ashland. P42DC 137 (48:43): Amtrak P097 SB. For some reason, the marker lights on the lead Amfleet were lit. ALC-42 310 P42DC 18 4-6-26 Two days later, I went back in attempt to catch CSX M410 with an AC4400CW pair. I also met up with Railfan Andy for a bit. (49:25): Amtrak P097 SB with two P42s and a deadhead diner at the front. Because even engineers get hungry! P42DC 81 P42DC 206 (51:39): CSX L134 rolls through town. I still wish this local would go back to being a daytime job! GP40-2 6060 (ex-B&O 4160) GP38-3 2024 (ex-CSX GP38-2 2627/L&N 4160) (53:08): CSX M409 rolls by with an 86ft boxcar in the mix! I caught this engine leading Q217 in Point of Rocks, MD in 2022 when it was still an AC4400CW. CM44AH 7563 (ex-AC4400CW 534) ES40DC 5222 (mid-DPU) (57:26): CSX M410 NB with an AC4400CW duo. I caught the leader on a grain train in May 2024 in Petersburg, VA. Those low ditchlights would make you think for a minute that it was a Dash 8 or Dash 9.
