How to Use a Scoliometer to Check for Scoliosis and Monitor Progression
Measuring scoliosis can be challenging without an x-ray. Even thought the standard for diagnosis is an x-ray and Cobb angle measurement, a Scoliometer can be used to pick up on the asymmetries that happen with scoliosis. Check out the Baseline Scoliometer we use in the clinic - https://amzn.to/3ChyE0H In this video we show how to use a Scoliometer to measure the rotation of the spine. This can be done in standing or sitting. In the clinic, this is done mostly in sitting, and then this is compared to standing to rule out a leg length difference. Proper technique and form is essential to getting accurate and repeatable measurements. Any angle over 5 degrees is considered significant and should be sent for an x-ray. Scoliosis progression can also be monitored with Scoliometer measurements, but this does not replace follow up x-rays once they are diagnosed.
