The Return — Year of Return 2019 Reprise

The Reprise take — the welcome ceremony at dusk, drummers and white-clad elders receiving the returned family by lantern and torchlight. In 2019, Ghana declared the Year of Return — 400 years since the first recorded enslaved Africans arrived in Jamestown, Virginia — inviting the African diaspora home. Thousands of African Americans and Afro-Caribbeans came back to Ghana's coast to reconnect, some walking back through the very doors of no return at Cape Coast and Elmina castles.
