Sailing Northeast Germany With a Memorial to Nazi Victims | Ep. 145
We sail along Germany’s Northeastern coast and realize this area was all part of East Germany before they reunited. We first visit Wernemunde, near Rostock Germany, then the beautiful rustic island of Hiddensee. Our last stop in this episode has us in Stralsund, Germany, a lovely historic town. This was our first introduction to Stolperstein, or Stumbling Stones, which are a memorial to victims of Nazi terror and they are placed at the last place of residence (or sometimes work) that the victim freely chose prior to being subjected to Nazi deportation and often eventual murder. As we travel throughout Europe, we are continually reminded of the immense magnitude of impact that World War II had on this continent and its people. May there never be another period of time like that again. Next episode, we sail to Bornholm – a Danish island off the southwestern coast of Sweden. Enjoy!
