Join me as I explore the remarkable Boxgrove Priory Church in West Sussex, England, a building with nearly 1,000 years of history. Originally founded as a Benedictine priory by monks from Normandy in the 12th century, Boxgrove survived the Dissolution of the Monasteries and remains one of England’s most fascinating historic churches. During this visit, I explore the church’s medieval architecture, stunning stained glass, ancient monuments, the magnificent De La Warr Chantry Chapel, and the beautiful painted Tudor ceiling created by renowned artist Lambert Barnard. The highlight of the visit is the memorial to Pilot Officer William Fiske, an American Olympic gold medallist who volunteered to fight for Britain during World War II. Fiske became the first American citizen to lose his life during the Battle of Britain, and I also visit his grave in the churchyard. From Norman monks and Tudor patrons to Battle of Britain heroes, Boxgrove Priory Church tells an extraordinary story spanning almost a millennium.
