Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cardiovascular Risk
This past installment of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine grand rounds, on Friday 12-January-2024, focused on obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular risk as described by Dr. Sunderram. Dr. Sunderram is a professor and interim chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at RWJMS and is the Medical Director and Service Chief for Respiratory Services of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine. He has been on the faculty at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School since 1999. His research interest is clinical and translational in nature. His primary research interest is in the pathogenesis, epidemiology and consequences of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He has a number of publications and has been the recipient of several competitive grants and currently has multiple grants from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to conduct research on the effect of obstructive sleep apnea in the World Trade Center Responder population. In addition to authoring a number of publications, Dr. Sunderram is a current American Thoracic Society (ATS) Fellow.
