Clinical Occupational Ergonomics: a Resource to Optimize Patient Care in Occupational Medicine
This past installment of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine grand rounds, on Friday 21-November-2025, focused on clinical occupational ergonomics as described by Acran Salmen-Navarro, MD, MSc. Dr. Salmen-Navarro is a Physician trained in Occupational Medicine, with a degree in Ergonomics and Biomechanics and a Population Health postdoctoral scholar program in Healthcare Delivery Science both from NYU Grossman School of Medicine. More recently an Executive Leadership in Health Care Certificate of Specialization from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has been affiliated to the NYU Grossman School of Medicine since 2016 working as an Occupational Health Specialist and Ergonomist at the NYU/Bellevue Occupational Environmental Medicine clinic (BNOEMC) within the NYC Health + Hospital | Bellevue. Since the beginning of his career, he has focused on promoting occupational health to vulnerable working populations (e.g. migrant workers, informal workers, pregnant workers) with multiple interventions around the world and more recently in New York City among the NYC Health and Hospital patient population. His career as a practitioner, workplace interventionist and recent research and leadership training have granted him national and international recognition. He leads multiple occupational health programs regionally and locally serving the New York City working population through the BNOEMC. Internationally he is part of the Technical Committee (TC) for musculoskeletal disorders and TC on informal workers of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA). As well as the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) chair of the Scientific Committee for OH of Health workers and the ICOH global lead for the in the topic of Occupational Health for migrant workers within the working group for the future of demographic changes and future for decent work. Dr. Salmen-Navarro is International Labour Organization (ILO) collaborator and advisor and more recently was named Chair of the newly formed Global Coalition on Informal Worker Health, Safety, and Wellbeing.
