Irish Road Trip Day 4 (Part 1): Historic Sligo to the Majestic Downpatrick Head! 🚗🦅

Welcome back to Part 1 of Day 4 on our 10-day Irish road trip adventure! Today, we are departing the poetic town of Sligo and heading south toward Athlone. Because this journey takes us through a mix of rich cultural landmarks and mind-blowing coastal scenery, I’ve broken the day into two parts. We decide to skip breakfast at the hotel this morning, opting instead for a refreshing morning stroll through the beautiful, quiet streets of Sligo Town. The early light on the river and stone buildings is absolutely stunning. Our walk brings us right to the famous W.B. Yeats Statue, standing proudly enveloped in his own poetry in front of the ornate old bank building. Before jumping back into the Ford Puma, we also stop to shoot some beautiful exterior footage of the historic stone ruins of Sligo Abbey. From town, we return to the Wild Atlantic Way and drive out to the spectacular Downpatrick Head in County Mayo. This place is breathtaking! I was completely blown away by Dún Briste, the colossal, solitary sea stack rising straight out of the churning Atlantic ocean just off the cliffs. The drone followed us everywhere along the grassy clifftops, capturing stunning, smooth tracking shots of the dramatic edge. As we hit the road again to continue our journey, our drive gets interrupted by the ultimate, adorable Irish traffic jam—a large herd of sheep taking over the road!
