Die AKN-Linie A2 zwischen Norderstedt Mitte und Ulzburg Süd – Eine Schnellbahn in Schleswig-Holstein

English subtitles available – Presentation of line A2 of AKN Eisenbahn GmbH, Norderstedt near Hamburg (Germany) – At Norderstedt Mitte station (Schleswig-Holstein, federal state of Germany) two rapid transit lines meet: underground line U1 of Hamburger Hochbahn and line A2 of AKN Eisenbahn GmbH (AKN railway company). Both lines terminate there. You can change between them and continue your journey with the other line. Underground trains stop on the two outer tracks, AKN trains on the middle track. On the day when this video was filmed there was a strike of ver.di trade union and no underground trains were running. On line A2, AKN typically uses LINT 54 DMUs (Diesel multiple units). North of Norderstedt Mitte the next stops are Moorbekhalle, Friedrichsgabe, Quickborner Straße, Haslohfurth and Meeschensee. In former times, in the 1960s and 1970s, this station was called Meeschensee-Alsterquelle. Indeed it is only 2,5 km from here to the spring of river Alster. Next station north of Meeschensee is Ulzburg Süd. Until July 2023 this was the terminus of line A2. Like in Norderstedt, trains reversed on the track in the middle. The tracks on the right and on the left were used by northbound and southbound trains of line A1. Since August 2023 A2 goes from Norderstedt via Ulzburg Süd to Neumünster and back. Line A1 now normally travels between Ulzburg Süd and Hamburg-Eidelstedt. Trains reverse on the western track on the left side. The line of A1 is converted to a suburban train line. This is the reason why the change between A1 and A2 was made. AKN does not only own DMUs of type LINT 54 but also type VTA. At the end of the video VTA can be seen on line A1. AKN also has LINT 41 DMUs in service. Norderstedt is the 4th largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, counted by the number of inhabitants. It was founded in 1970 by uniting the 4 communities of Garstedt, Friedrichsgabe, Harksheide and Glashütte. That's why the territory of Norderstedt is so large.
