Die AKN-Strecke zwischen Ulzburg Süd und Henstedt-Ulzburg (Dieselbetrieb 2024)

English subtitles available – Presentation of the section from Ulzburg Süd to Henstedt-Ulzburg of AKN Eisenbahn GmbH (federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany). At Schulstraße the line enters a tunnel, passing under the centre of Henstedt-Ulzburg. The other end of the tunnel is just at Henstedt-Ulzburg railway station. Today, lines A2 and A3 run there. The track of A3 turns out westward just north of the station. The station is located in a trough below street level. Henstedt-Ulzburg station has not always as low as this. In former times it has been at street level, a bit more to the west. The old station building was torn down completely. In September 1992 the station had been called Ulzburg. Shortly before, passenger traffic on the section of A3 between Barmstedt and Ulzburg had been resumed. In 1992 Uerdingen railbuses were used on this line. There were stickers at the windows, indicating the direction of travel, Elmshorn or Barmstedt. Inside, the backrests of the seats were typical of the railbuses. They could be tilted to the other side using the handle. If you preferred, you could always sit in the direction of travel. The AKN line was built completely new in the years from 1997 to 2001, including the tunnel unter the town centre. Since then, the station is below street level. Several level crossings could also be closed. Train frequency on AKN has increased with the years. Today, trains run every 20 minutes during day time and every 10 minutes during peak hours. The old line was withdrawn after the new line had been completed. Most of it is now used as a walking and cycling path. Only the sections on both sides of Pinnau river are overgrown with plants. The old Pinnau bridge does no longer exist. In the southern part you can see the position of the the old railway line as a straight path. At its southern end it approaches Ulzburg Süd station.
