FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA Ep. 08 – Val Resia, una voce nella montagna

Straddling the Julian Alps and Prealps, and on the border with Slovenia, lies a long and narrow valley enclosed by two high and sharp mountain ranges. These natural ramparts contain #ValResia and its small community with a strong identity, united by a dialect that many scholars believe derives from Slovenian and comes in four variants. It's incredible to think that in the same valley, the same language is fragmented into four expressive variations, one for each village. This linguistic phenomenon testifies to the fact that once upon a time, it was not only difficult to get out of the valley but even from one's own village due to the scarcity of means and communication routes, as I learned in the accurate museum of Stolvizza. In the new episode of 'Un reporter in valigia,' we also discover the scenic beauties of Val Resia along the ancient routes of the mountain pastures that lead to what they call here "stavoli." The next episode, out on Saturday, June 5th, will tackle a much more challenging trekking route in the Friulian Dolomites.
