Antelope Valley Poppies

This was the fifth day of our five-day trip exploring wildflowers out in the desert. We were on our way home, traveling through Lancaster, California, when we took a detour to see if there were any poppies near the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve State Natural Reserve. Along the way, we spotted fields of bright orange poppies and patches of Purple Owl’s Clover. We didn’t have to go into the poppy reserve to see acres and acres of flowers. In fact, there were more poppies growing outside of the reserve than in the reserve. Since we were on public lands rather than in the state reserve, I was able to fly my drone, which I don’t often get the chance to do. I’m not an expert at flying a drone, as you can see from the video. You’ll note that we took these videos just a few days ago. If you are watching this and live nearby, head off towards the poppy reserve, because I don’t think the flowers will last more than a week, maybe two.
