Last March, the National Assembly's vote on an amendment to abolish the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) reignited the debate on the evaluation of scientific research. Heavily criticized and often deemed bureaucratic and useless, should we do away with research evaluation altogether? Is it possible to find relevant indicators for evaluating public research?
