The City of Industry, often referred to simply as Industry, is an industrial suburb of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. It was incorporated on June 18, 1957, and has become the economic hub for the San Gabriel Valley. The city's zoning is primarily devoted to business: 92% is industrial, 8% is commercial. The few residences in the city either existed before incorporation, are on properties adjacent to either Industry Hills Golf Club, Industry Hills Recreation Center or in a small neighborhood adjacent to City Hall. The City of Industry incorporates an area of approximately 12.5 square miles in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County. The City is strategically located within the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is within easy commute of downtown Los Angeles, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the Los Angeles and Ontario International Airports. Since its incorporation in 1957, the City of Industry has devoted itself primarily to the development of light manufacturing, ware-housing, and distribution facilities. It has proven that concentration of industrial activity in a centralized location with excellent access and a climate conducive to industrial development can be highly successful. El Monte is a residential, industrial, and commercial city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Located approximately 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, El Monte is the hub of the San Gabriel Valley, where two major freeways - Interstates 605 and 10 - intersect and is the ninth largest city (out of 88) in Los Angeles County with a population of approximately 120,000. El Monte's slogan is "Welcome to Friendly El Monte" and historically is known as "The End of the Santa Fe Trail". As of 2019, El Monte was the 54th-largest city in California. El Monte is situated between the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers; residents claimed that anything could be grown in the area. Between 1770 and 1830, Spanish soldiers and missionaries often stopped here for respite. They called the area 'El Monte,' which in Spanish means 'the mountain' or 'the mount'. Most people assume the name refers to a mountain, but there were no mountains in the valley.
