For the first time, I ate galette des rois, a sweet that French people always eat in January. I tried making it at home right away, and it turned out to be easy and stylish, so I'd like to share the recipe with you. Epiphany is "Epiphany" in Japanese, and the day when the three kings came to see Christ, who was born on December 25th, was on January 6th, and on that day they ate galette des rois for the first time. I will eat this galette many times throughout the month. It's similar to how Japanese people eat rice cake. A friend of mine in the neighborhood had a fire on January 6th and was unable to return home, so I'm living with him for the time being. I heard about Galette des Rois from my girlfriend and thought I'd like to try it. When it's time to eat the galette, before her mother cuts it into portions for each person, her youngest daughter hides under the table and tells her family which piece to give to each person. Inside the galette is a ceramic doll called a fève, and the person who wins the galette containing it can become a king or princess for a day. After hearing her story, I decided to make galette for her as well. Since she is a vegan, which is rare for a French person, she also made a vegan galette.
