When he was 17 years old, he was on the verge of death from tuberculosis in his second year. He went to his hometown, Ulsan, Jinjang, to rest, and received outpatient treatment in Busan. Meanwhile, he married Kim Seong-hye, the daughter of Pastor Ja-sil Choi, whom he met at the same school, on March 1, 1965, and they have three children. At the age of 20, Pastor Yonggi Cho started pastoring with evangelist Jasil Choi at the Tent Village in Daejo-dong, and served as the Pastor of the Yeouido Full Gospel Church, the largest Protestant church in the world, with about 780,000 members. He is fluent in Japanese and English, and has contributed to Protestant missions through Pentecostal missionary activities abroad. In May 2008, he finished his term as the Pastor of the Pastor, and then worked as an elder pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church. The Yeouido Full Gospel Church elected Pastor Young-Hoon Lee as the second chairman of the session with overwhelming support.
