Langley Township in British Columbia, Canada, is seeing a massive influx of young people and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Recently, a large-scale K-Food festival was held there, bringing the entire neighborhood together. I visited the vibrant festival site that united the local community across races and generations. [Reporter] A long line of residents holding umbrellas stretches out. From spicy tteokbokki and fish cakes to sweet makgeolli—they are there to taste a variety of Korean foods. Even the inclement weather could not dampen the enthusiasm of locals eager to experience the flavors of Korea firsthand. [Aaron Schmidt / Festival Participant: It would be perfect on a slightly cloudy day like today. It’s great. Really great.] [Lee Jin-mok / Festival Participant: K-culture is such a boom right now, and I especially liked the kimchi. The makgeolli was also delicious, and I really enjoyed being here.] Langley Township is a region where the younger generation and families with young children are moving in in large numbers following the recent development of large-scale housing complexes. At the festival site, residents of diverse ethnicities mingled together, enjoying not only Korean food but also traditional performances and K-pop dance, showcasing the spirit of a multicultural community. [Denica Ponteca / Festival Participant: I bought tteokbokki. I like spicy food because I went to high school in Korea. So I know Korean food. I wanted to introduce Korean food to my husband.] This festival, celebrating the growth and importance of the Korean community in the Langley area, attracted over 15,000 visitors over two days. In addition, dedicated booths were set up to introduce local specialties and corporate products from Korean municipalities, promoting excellent regional goods and adding significance to economic exchange.
