The tradition of ninda sthuthis marks a fine tradition of poetic freedom and license that Hindu sanathan enjoys. In this Padam a concerned mother asks her love struck daughter who has fallen in love with Lord Shiva: "What is it in him that has attracted you so?" she cries. "Is it the dirty animal skins that he dons; or the slithery snakes he wears as jewels; or his unkempt matted locks?; or his unwashed body covered with cold ash; or his fierce third eye?"
