We went to Bob Gurr's House on the Last Day of Our Honeymoon

Before heading to Bob’s house, we made a few special stops around Los Angeles, including the world’s oldest operating McDonald’s in Downey, California, and the former site of Walt Disney’s Hyperion Studio, where so much early Disney history was made — now part of a shopping mall. The original plan was to take part in the Waltland Tour, but due to Bob’s health and some bad California weather, the experience became something even more personal: spending a few hours at Bob Gurr’s house. We enjoyed a packed lunch, explored Bob’s home and collection of Disney, Universal and theme park memorabilia, and saw some amazing pieces of history — including his original Mr. Toad ride vehicle, his Disney Legend Award, and his Window on Main Street, U.S.A. The day ended with a Q&A with Bob in his garage, followed by photos and autographs (autographs were a paid extra). It was a surreal and unforgettable way to end our honeymoon — meeting someone who helped shape so many Disney parks, attractions and memories.
