Loflied op de langzaamloper (34) - Deutz 545 op het binnenvaartschip Brutus

Henry Weinhold and Christel Pepermans have been sailing the 60-meter Brutus since 2008. The engine room houses a 500-hp Deutz 545. Henry, who has extensive experience with slow-running engines, attaches great importance to lubrication. "It's better to use 200 liters too much oil annually than 5 liters too little." While underway, Christel lubricates the engine. "You really have to pay attention," says Christel, "because everything is hot, and you still have to keep your balance." She demonstrates how she climbs atop the vessel to lubricate the various points. "Look at it this way," says Henry, "you have to treat the engine like a woman. Because if you don't treat your wife right, she'll leave. And if you don't treat your engine right, it'll die." He also explains how his father created starting air using film.
