Gym, bios en terrassen: silo’s Zeeburgereiland krijgen vorm

The three iconic silos on Zeeburgereiland are finally getting a new purpose. Once part of the sewage treatment plant, they will soon house a mix of restaurants, offices, a gym, and a cinema. After years of waiting, the redevelopment of the silos on Zeeburgereiland has finally begun. Previous plans to convert the silos, which were formerly part of the sewage treatment plant, were abandoned. In recent years, the Sportheldenbuurt neighborhood has emerged around the silos. Because the municipality didn't want the silos demolished, it launched a competition. But subsequent grand plans ultimately failed to materialize. Finally, a suitable party was found, says district administrator Jan-Bert Vroege. "But then we faced several crises again," he says. Construction has now begun, and it's already clear what the new layout will look like. Silo 1, 2, and 3 "We usually call them S1, S2, and S3, or also West, Midden, and Oost," says project developer Jurgen Dingemans. Each silo will soon have its own character. For example, the Rialto cinema will soon open its doors in the West silo, with five cinemas, a café, and a rooftop bar. The Middensilo will be home to the Silo gym, with additional space for restaurants and flexible workspaces. The Oostsilo will feature restaurants with terraces. The various floors of the silos will also offer space for events, venue rentals, and workspaces. A rooftop park with views of the Markermeer and Amsterdam will be built 25 meters up. The park is semi-public. "Zeeburgereiland could definitely use some work. Come on, let's spice things up a bit." Young people on Zeeburgereiland "This finally brings some culture to the island," says Dingemans proudly. And according to young people in the neighborhood, it's desperately needed. "Zeeburgereiland could definitely use some work. Come on, man, give it a bit of a boost. This is ridiculous," says one of them. Another boy thinks the result will be beautiful. Construction will take a while. If all goes well, the project will be finished in about a year. ❌ ❌ ❌ AT5 - Real Amsterdam News Subscribe to our YouTube channel here:    / at5   Tips or comments?
