Dubai's history is believed to have begun between 3000 BC and 2500 BC, when the area where the city is located became habitable. Initially, the Dubai region was used by nomadic cattle herders, and from the 7th century onward, the region became known for pearl fishing and remained a fishing village until the late 18th century. In the early 19th century, the Dubai area came under the rule of the Al Falasa Dynasty, a branch of the Bani Yas tribal confederation. In 1833, Dubai was conquered by the Al Maktoum Dynasty, and the city began to develop. However, it was after 1966, with the discovery of oil in the region, that Dubai began to grow rapidly. Oil revenues contributed to the impressive development of the city, which is now known worldwide for its unique infrastructure, tourism, and luxury.
