17-06-26 Martín Güemes: Resistencia recordó al general gaucho, a 205 años de su fallecimiento

The city of Resistencia paid tribute to General Martín Miguel de Güemes on the 205th anniversary of his death. The ceremony began with the raising of the national flag on the main flagpole, followed by floral offerings at the foot of the busts of the Salta-born hero, located in Plaza 25 de Mayo and in the gardens of the Resistencia City Hall. There were moments of silence, and the event featured a performance by the “Luis Omobono Gusberti” Municipal Band. Municipal, provincial, and security forces authorities were present, along with representatives from educational institutions and community groups, descendants of immigrants, and veterans of the South Atlantic theater of operations during the Falklands War. The head of Squadron 51 “Fontana” of the National Gendarmerie, Chief Commander Carlos David Marín, stated in his message: “His life was a powerful example of humanity and patriotism, an outstanding individual, social, military, and political figure. His voice remains treasured in the hidden corners of our landscapes, the roar of his gaucho cunning uniting efforts in the definitive construction of our nation. To speak of Güemes is not simply to recount history; it is much more, it is to understand the significance he holds for the men of the frontier.” The Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism highlighted the educational institutions that always participate with their flags and, in this case, the National Gendarmerie, “who see themselves represented in Güemes, a man who, not only through his struggle but also through his values, defended our homeland.” “Remembering our heroes, with their values, their struggle and their unwavering life trajectory, allows us to enjoy this Argentina that we all have and live in freedom,” they emphasized.
