Had to INTERVIEW SIBLING DUO Separately Cuz They Couldn’t STAND to Be In SAME ROOM-Professor of Rock

Rock and roll has always been a family business. And family… well, family is complicated. Growing up together, fighting together, making history together — and sometimes, destroying each other's dreams in the process. Today, we're counting down the most explosive sibling rivalries in rock history. And trust me, these stories are gonna entertain! Like the legendary Everly Brothers, whose decades of resentment finally detonated onstage — in front of a live amusement park crowd. The show prematurely ended with a smashed guitar and a stunning confession. Or how about the two brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher, whose lifelong war with cricket bats and potato insults started back in their tiny shared bedroom… fighting over who had the best shoes. And then there’s the Carpenters brother-sister duo, where the brother called all the shots, literally telling his sister what notes to sing on every record. And when she finally broke free to make an album of her own… he destroyed it. Yeah, we all might need some therapy after this one. It’s brotherly and sisterly love gone so very wrong… next on The Professor of Rock. Alright it’s time to countdown the ultimate sibling rivalries: Kicking off this Sibling Rivalry countdown at #7, we're talking about the one of most powerful bonds in hard rock: Eddie and Alex Van Halen. The two brothers helped build one of the greatest rock bands on planet earth. Their partnership was untouchable. But sometimes even rock solid brotherly love doesn’t always hold up. And in 1982, that bond got put to the test. Here's the setup… At the time, Van Halen had a strict, unspoken rule: no session work. No playing on other people's records. Period. The idea was simple — if you wanted to hear Eddie's legendary guitar work, you had to go buy a Van Halen album. That sound belonged to the band. Alex was especially protective of this policy. To him, this was more than just a business rule. It was about the sanctity of the Van Halen brand. So when producer Quincy Jones called Eddie in 1982 looking for a favor, the timing couldn't have been worse… or better, depending on how you look at it. At first, Eddie wasn't even sure it was really Quincy Jones on the line. He thought, “I don't know anyone named Quincy.” But after hanging up on the man, Eddie figured out this wasn't a prank. It was really Quincy Jones. And he was calling to ask him to play on Michael Jackson's new record Thriller. At first, Eddie was skeptical. What was he supposed to do with the guy who sang "ABC" and "1-2-3?" But after he actually listened to the track… (which if you didn’t know was “Beat It”) something clicked. Eddie asked if he could rearrange part of the track. The engineer spliced things together in about 10 minutes. And then Eddie improvised two solos on the spot. He was just wrapping up the second one when Michael walked into the room. Eddie was fully expecting to get thrown out for messing with the song. But Jackson was floored. He thanked Eddie for caring enough to make the track better. The result was legendary. And the price for one of the most famous guitar solos in pop history? Eddie didn't take a dime. he got paid NADA Eddie figured nobody would know it was him. But word got out fast. "Beat It" dropped on February 14th, 1983. It shot to #1 on the Hot 100 and parked itself there for 3 weeks. The solo was impossible to ignore and it didn’t stay a secret for long. When Eddie’s brother Alex found out, he was furious. As far as he was concerned, Eddie had just handed over the family's most valuable asset to a pop star. For free! The Van Halen sound was their trade secret, their calling card.
