Overnight Hike - Cold Stream Hut

I am very happy to complete 2024's unfinished business and get to Cold Stream Hut in Lake Sumner. This is a great quick overnight trip about 1.5 hours north of Christchurch. Starting from the Jollie Brook Swingbridge, on the Lake Sumner Road, and following the Jollie Brook Track towards Jollie Brook Hut. It takes about 2 hours to reach the junction with Cold Stream Hut Track. From here you need to cross the Jollie Brook to Cold Stream and then follow this all the way to Cold Stream Hut. There are limited markers along this section of trail, and the trail is overgrown in many places. As you progress up stream the valley and river opens up making travel a lot quicker and easier. There are multiple stream crossings and wet feet are inevitable. Cold Stream Hut is located in a clearing just above the stream, it has 6 bunks and an open fire. Water is accessed from the stream about 2 minutes away.
