Today we feature how to climb by bike the Cote de Domancy made famous with the Tour de France, the Criterium du Dauphine and the 1980 World Road Race Championship which Bernard Hinault won. Possibly the most famous climb in France that you have never heard of. The 1980 Road Cycling World Championships were based in nearby Sallanches which is very close to Chamonix Mont Blanc. French hero Bernard Hinault took the win. 170 starters, 15 finishers including Britain's Robert Millar. They climbed the Cote de Domancy 20 times, with 6000M of ascent and Hinault attacked on the final lap. More recently the Cote de Domancy has been used in the Criterium Dauphine and featured in the 2016 Tour de France with the Sallanches to Megeve Time Trial going up the Cote , and the following days stage to St Gervais Bettex coming down the Domancy. We will see the Cote de Domancy again on 16th August 2020 in the Queen's stage of the Criterium Dauphine 2020.
