Naramat Indigenous Women Arboretum
Naramat Indigenous Women Arboretum – A Sanctuary of Resilience and Renewal Located in Kipsing, Oldonyiro Ward of Isiolo County, the Naramat Indigenous Women Arboretum is a vibrant hub led by Indigenous women. Established in 2023 in the wake of a devastating drought that wiped out 99% of the community’s livestock, the Arboretum emerged as a beacon of hope and resilience. It offers nature-based solutions to empower local women and rebuild livelihoods through the cultivation and preservation of medicinal and culturally significant plants, sustainable harvesting of gum Arabic and resin, honey production, beadwork value addition, and kitchen gardening. This initiative not only supports economic independence but also revitalizes traditional knowledge and environmental stewardship.
