Milano, inchiesta urbanistica: chi sono Giancarlo Tancredi e Manfredi Catella

Among those under investigation in the new strand of the Guardia di Finanza investigation into the management of urban planning in Milan are two prominent figures: Giancarlo Tancredi, the city's councilor for urban regeneration, and Manfredi Catella, president of the Coima real estate group, a company that has launched construction projects in several areas of the city, including Porta Nuova, Garibaldi, and Isola. The Prosecutor's Office has requested house arrest for both. Tancredi, 63, is a key figure in the Sala administration: during the mayor's first term, he served as director of the Thematic Planning and Area Development area, and Sala himself appointed him councilor in October 2021. In the past, he has worked on planning projects in key areas of the city, including the Expo 2015 site. He has also overseen other projects involving the CityLife area, the Darsena area, the abandoned railway yards, and the Stadium. Manfredi Catella, meanwhile, is one of the most prominent figures in the Italian real estate scene: his company, Coima, oversaw the redevelopment of the entire Porta Nuova area, where the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) project was built. In recent months, Coima has also submitted projects for other areas, such as the Porta Romana railway yard, and for the redevelopment of historic buildings, such as the Pirellino. The company is also working on the construction of the Olympic Village for the Milan and Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Catella, in short, has overseen real estate projects that have transformed the face of Milan. The new investigation also includes star architect Stefano Boeri, who has already been charged in two other proceedings in Milan: for bid-rigging and false statements in the case of the European Library of Information and Culture (BEIC), and for unauthorized construction in the Bosconavigli project.
