He lives just a few meters from where the Torre Futura was supposed to be built. A 90-meter, 22-story skyscraper replaces the former railway workers' hotel, an eight-story building that would have been perfect for student housing. The Torre Futura was blocked by the City of Milan after residents filed a complaint. It also ended up in the midst of a major investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office: the project was voted on in 2021 by the Landscape Commission. Architect Alessandro Scandurra, the designer of the Torre Futura, was on that commission, although he didn't vote. Scandurra took over during construction after a previous project was rejected by the Commission. A few kilometers further south, in the Porta Romana neighborhood, the redevelopment of the former Romana railway yard has come under scrutiny by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office due to architect Scandurra's alleged conflict of interest. The project by Coima, the company founded by Manfredi Catella, received a favorable opinion from the Commission. However, the delegate for Milan's Municipio 5, Mattia Cugini, voted against it, highlighting the project's shortcomings, despite its guidelines: "As Municipio 5, we wanted to avoid the construction of a fortified citadel" in the neighborhood.
