Baghdad in Iraq is the setting. Significantly, Aladdin is featured in A Thousand and One Nights, also known as the Arabian Nights, which is a collection of Middle Eastern tales that” includes Aladdin, Sinbad the Sailor, and Ali Baba. Here in Baghdad, these fantastical scenes took place in an “interdimensional world”…once upon a time. Baghdad embodies “the ancient spirit of the Arabian Nights”. Along the streets and alleyways leading to busy marketplaces, images of Aladdin running around may emerge from any corner, depending on how the imagination takes the observer. It is no wonder that this place inspired the following lines in the story: ‘Baghdad is a city of incomparable beauty, full of wealthy merchants and the finest goods and products from all corners of the world. The streets are full of people from all walks of life.’ In Baghdad of the 21st century, there are countless Aladdin’s lamps to choose from. The stories have transformed into items exhibited for sale. Many things have been created that have nothing to do with the genie in the lamp.
